King’s College London fully-funded Africa Studentships

King’s College London is offering fully-funded Africa Studentships for the academic year 2023/24 to suitably qualified African students who seek to explore fashion economies in Africa.

This postgraduate (Ph.D.) program aims to generate new data on fashion producers in Africa, focusing on lead firms in the global South.

It is designed to support students to move their vision beyond Africa as resource-constrained to focus on creativity, ideas, and innovation.

 

The King’s College London Africa Studentships is an excellent opportunity for Africans who are permanently resident in an African country and meet the academic requirements for enrollment for a Ph.D. degree in the Faculty of Social Science and Policy at King’s College London.

 

Disciplinary areas of particular relevance include, but are not limited to: International Political Economy, Political Economy, Fashion Management, Business, Development Studies, Culture, Media & Creative Industries, Policy, Sociology, Geography, and Social Sciences.

 

Applicants must hold or expect to obtain a High Merit or Distinction at the Master’s level (or equivalent) in any subject and must have experience in qualitative and quantitative methods, as well as a strong interest in fashion and the creative economy (academic, professional, personal).

Eligibility Criteria:

 

  • Be African and be permanently resident in an African country.
  • Plan to commence a full-time MPhil/Ph.D. program at King’s College London in the 2023-24 academic year (Ideal candidate to start in October 2023 but by no later than January 2024).
  • Meet the academic requirements for enrolment for the Ph.D. degree in the Faculty of Social Science and Policy at King’s College London.
  • Hold or expect to obtain a High Merit or Distinction at Master’s level (or equivalent) in any subject.
  • Have experience in qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Disciplinary areas of particular relevance include, but are not limited to: International Political Economy; Political Economy; Fashion Management; Business; Development Studies; Culture, Media & Creative Industries; Policy; Sociology; Geography; and Social Sciences.
  • Have a strong interest in fashion and the creative economy (academic, professional, personal).
  • Possess good team-working, observational, organization, and communication skills.

Scholarship Benefits:

 

  • The studentship covers the following for four years:
  • Tuition fees at the higher international/overseas rate.
  • An annual stipend (living allowance) at the UKRI rate (for the year 2022/23, this was set at £19,688).
  • Research costs up to £5,000 per annum.
